(Answer) Along with a general discontent with the colonies, America along with several nations under imperialist rule fought for independence because of a change in ideologies from a new age.

The age of enlightenment marked the end of ‘absolutism’. The attributes that encapsulated this age was that people believed that the power of the government should be in the hands of the people. It was an age where freedom of thought and expression were finally encouraged. This age put a dent in the powers of the absolute because it was an age of new ideas and equality. This was an age where rationality was winning over despotism.

The events that most exemplified the Age of Enlightenment, was that the colonies finally started to resent the imperial rulers. This is what sparked discontent among individuals who were subjugated by the British rule in several nations.

As ideas of equality and freedom began to spread across the world, it was evident that there was truly discontent among the colonies. This discontent was evident in the rebellion that followed in many colonies around the world.

Along with this, the 13 colonies in America shared a common discontent of the British rule. Unfair taxes on basic commodities and payment of war debt were ways in which the British government financially exploited America is the same way that they did with most of their colonies around the world.

In April 1775, the incident known as “the shot heard around the world” was the apotheosis of the constant attrition of incidents that led to the American Revolution. This was when the militia of the colonies exchanged fire at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. This incident was the start of the new world.
