What is Arab Spring Uprising?
A day in spring which saw them overthrow of the long-term autocratic rule in Egypt and Tunisia in January 2011.
The unrest was impacting the Middle East and North African region of the world. It started on 10 December 2010 in Tunisia by the self-immolation of a market stall holder Mohammed Bouaziz. The battle in Libya and the political unrest in Syria and Bahrain represented changes in the Arab world having a long-term impact on its politics.
Why Arab Spring?
Arab spring also known as Arab awakening is a wakeup call for the monarchies which follow a regime of corruption, repression of speech, human rights abuse, economic repression etc. 25% of the 300 million people are under the age of 29 years. The 25% of the young are unemployed facing waning dreams, and a lack of personal freedom was suddenly equipped with tools of social media like twitter, youtube, blogging etc.

Social media and television played a major role in uprooting the autocratic, monarchies and despotic rules as follows:
The Impact of Arab Spring:
The young activists, labor unions and workers in Egypt and Tunisia held peaceful demonstrations overthrowing the rule of 30 years of Hosni Mubarak’s rule by peaceful demonstrations in Cairo Tahir square. This made the governments realize that they cannot rule by repression and force anymore. The impact was felt differently in different countries but spread wide and far across the Middle East and North Africa also promoted by twitter handle and facebook posts.
In Libya, the Dictator Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown by the militias. Yemen’s despotic leader Ali Abdullah Saleh was overthrown by students and workers.
Saudi Arabia leadership took a two-pronged strategy to take care of unemployment and youth uprising by declaring a $130 billion of financial benefits like housing schemes, launching new Employment schemes, increase in salaries etc. Four gulf nations used economic and financial schemes to stem revolts. Only Bahrain saw an uprising lasting 1 month which was handled by Saudi and UAE together to consolidate the political uprising.
Iraq saw the end of Saddam Hussain’s leadership in favor of an elected government and Syria is only country still fighting despotism and repression.
To sum it up though dictatorships were thrown out consolidation and revamping the political situation is critical to making these countries more progressive. The challenges of economic inequality, lack leadership, unemployment, and poverty are still a reality. The fear of being taken over by new democrats is always existing. The power of Militia groups has increased. The unequal laws against woman still are existing. The countries have a long way to go to becoming freely elected governments with a progressive leadership.
