At age 78, Maria has left her house, her neighborhood, and her church activities and moved to another state in order to live close to her oldest son and his family. Describe some of the effects this move might have on Maria’s personal relationships. What are some of the risks that will be involved if Maria does not have the ability or the opportunity to make new friends?

Late adulthood is a stage in life where the dynamics of relationships quite change. Maria has lost her sisters, she has lost some friends as well. With the move to another state has left her feeling emotionally vulnerable. Every individual thrives on some kind of relationship, closeness or at least have somebody to talk to whose wavelength matches with theirs. Maria would be left feeling lonely and depressed if she does not have the opportunity to make new friends. Depression could lead to other mental disorders which would affect her over all mental well being.

I reckon, for me relationships are my priority. My parents and a handful of close friends are very important to me and I hope to have them in my social convoy when I am eighty years old. Social relationships in late adulthood are the lifeline to most. It is the only thing that keeps one going. Relationship dynamics change. A person always wants to feel loved and feel like they have somebody in their life who cares for them, they could talk to or be with. Social interactions are the only thing that keeps older adults going because immobility otherwise does not.
