1. In the movie ‘300’, key questions are raised about the duty, honour and roles and responsibilities which govern the lives of members of a society. In the antiquity, The Spartan society represented a group which was outside the parlance Republic as it existed in Greece. Spartans were essentially a warrior community who fought with any side, the protagonist in the movie, the chief king of Sparta highlighted the difference between the Spartan society and the other principalities in his statement about free soldiers and paid soldiers. Here, Free soldiers refer to mercenaries who are not enslaved to the rule s and norms of a single monarch. Rather, a mercenary can leave the side that he fight s for at any point of time based on his own interests. In contrast, ‘ soldiers who are paid’ are conscripted to work in the defence of one kingdom, state or monarch for the rest of their life.
