Operational Definitions, in the realm of psychology, refers to observable events that any researcher can test or measure. For instance, cognition is hard to directly observe. For instance, memory, thinking, intelligence and etcetera cannot be directly measured. However, certain other measures can be taken which reflect these processes. Operational Definition is a standard way of measuring a certain thing. For instance, a researcher must know what to measure for intelligence. He cannot measure whatever he wants to, and claim that to be the measure for intelligence. The data must be collected with accordance to the operational definition. It needs to be clear and concise as to what must and is needed to be measured.
