Explanation / Answer
Chapter one topic
A) Georgia assigned participants to the group randomly so that each participant has an equal chance of being assigned to each group. Random assignment of participants ensures that any differences between and within the groups are not systematic. Thus, any differences between groups that are recorded at the end of the experiment can be more confidently attributed to the experimental procedures.
B) The independent variable is the good mood, and the dependent variable is the helpful behavior of the participants. According to Georgia, the Dependent variable (helping behavior) is dependent on the independent variable (good mood). According to her hypothesis participants are more likely to behave kindly towards the actor who lost their cellphones by helping them find it when in good mood. A good mood is profucep by asking the participants of group 1 to write about a happiest moment of their lives for 10 minutes. The participants will be said to be behaving kindly when they will help the actor find his cellphone.
C) The experimental group is the group in which participants are asked to write for 10 minutes about the happiest moment of their lives. The control group is the group in which the participants are asked to write about a typical day in their lives.
Chapter two topic
The brain is divided into two halves called hemispheres.
The right hemisphere is responsible for nonverbal and intuitive functions such as putting bits of information together to make up an entire picture, recognizing oral and visual patterns, and expressing and understanding emotions.
If Carl damages his Right hemisphere, he may have trouble in the following areas
He might also have problems using his arms or legs. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. This means that his movement will be worse on the left side.
Chapter three topic
Sound Localization is the ability of a person to identify the direction and distance from which the sound is originating. If Casey is not able to detect the direction of the sound while hiking, she will not be able to identify where her friends are exactly and she can get confused while rock climbing, which can be dangerous as she won't be able to follow instructions accurately. Sound Localization makes the listener comfortable to operate in his or her environment. When this ability is low, it can affect a person's safe interaction in environment and can influence safe movement in public spaces. For example, if Casey's sound localization abilities are poor, she won't be able to tell the direction of an approaching vehicle with or without horn which can lead to fatal consequences.
