The first two emotions that develop in an infant are pleasure, pain, curiosity, and happiness. In the first year of life, infants also express anger and fear. As they enter their second year of life, the emotion of fear is usually intensified and fear and anger tend to be directed at specific things. Eventually, these emotions taper out. Toddlers start to become more aware of their actions and as a result, they also begin to experience emotions such as embarrassment and pride.These emotions develop based on their interactions with family members and is influenced by culture. An experiment was developed to measure self-awareness in infants. In the experiment, children between the ages of 9 to 24 months were shown a mirror. If a child's reaction on seeing their reflection in the mirror was to touch their own nose, then it meant the child was aware that they were looking at their own face. based on this experiment, it was found that the concept of self-awareness is usually formed by 15 months old.
