Question

Let's see if we can apply some of this research stuff to our lives. For this post, check your original Introduction post, take one piece of personal information (e.g., favorite show, hobbies, current/future employment), and create a scientific procedure by following the criteria/questions below:

1. What is your research question? For example, if you are an aspiring psychologist-in-training and you believe that psychologists are happier compared to, let's say, designers, you could phrase a research question like this: "Are psychology majors happier than all other professions?" Or, if you are a gamer, and believe that playing online improves cognitive functioning, you could ask, "Does playing first-person interactive video games improve cognitive functioning?"

2. Write your hypothesis. Here is where you are taking your "educated guess" at the relationship between the variables you are interested in studying (e.g., profession + happiness). An example could be: "Psychology students will demonstrate higher levels of subjective happiness compared to design majors."

3. Describe your dependent variable.

4. Describe your independent variable.

5. How will you measure your variables?

6. What would be any foreseeable limitations in your approach to study these variables?

7. Just based on a very unscientific approach, and out of my own curiosity, what would you think you would find if this study really did occur?

Explanation / Answer

As far as I have understood the question: I believe that what your trying to measure does make sense , in other words the relativity or level of happiness of a Psychology majors as compared to a design majors.

2. such a hypothesis can be there "Psychology students will demonstrate higher levels of subjective happiness compared to design majors."

3.Since Psychology majors and Design majors are both your core areas to test - I will consider them to be your dependant variables

4. Independant variable is Levels of Subjective happiness

5. I will measure the variables using an Open method namely Questionnaire // Survey method to a large audience namely 50 per majors i.e 100 participants in all.

6. Forseeable limitation in this study is getting correct data and from the size of people we are looking at (If things go well - In depth knowlege about the pros and cons of each majors shall be before you. As you shall be dealing with live experiences in terms of study, work life balance, pay, market value, openess to growth in the fireld etc. So the end result totally depends on how well have your 100 subjects taken the effort to reply.

7. Yes why not this study could have occured as it's directly in proportion to what one feels about Psychology majors as a subject + as remuneration one can receive after stuying it. I'm sure some one must have studied this if not some one should. It's an eyeopener.
