Abolitionists movement help us to understand the relationship between race and class in people's lives in the 19th century very clearly.In New York,white women ran schools at sunday and schools for black children.They also ran Coloured Orphan Asylum and the Ladies' New York City Anti-Slavery Society.This anti-slavery society remained in white hands.Black women abolisionists participated where white women abolisionists were fearful towards black women.White women were very supportive but was also very judgemental.Members also opposed the idea of social mixing.White women had no problem that black women attended the meetings but believed that to accept them as members would mean to accept them as equal in the society
