Please, help me write suporting points to my paragraph down here.

Dr. king did not use much logos in his writing. However, this was completely appropriate because of king’s purpose. Logos was not going to be as effective because of his

audiences. Logos was used in his letter by quoting other important people from history. For example, he quote “ I would agree with St. Augustine that "an unjust law is no law at all ”(par 12)

Explanation / Answer

Dr. King uses the logos to appeal to the reasoning and intelligence of targeted audiences to make them think of the atrocities committed against the African-Americans. To make reasonable the non-violent civil rights struggle of these people as just and required to establish change for good in the society.

Dr.King uses example from history and the Bible to appeal of logos towards his audience. He uses the example of Hitler of Germany and his atrocities against the Jews. He states that in Germany it was illegal to protect and shelter Jews but despite of this rule, if had been in Germany he would have broken this rule and protected Jews and would have stood for them. Here he points to the unjust and unfair laws of Hitler in Germany. Thus, he is raising doubts in the mind of his audience and appealing to their reasons to think,if atrocities against jews is condemnable then why do they discriminate and keep back the rights of Afro-Americans who live with them and are the citizens of their own country, and making his stance clear why he is supporting and the Civil Rights movement.

Next he uses the examples of prominent Biblical figures, the most prominent, Jesus Christ to appeal to the reason of his audience by questioning the reasoning of Jesus' sacrifice at the cross. That Jesus have took this extreme step for the sake of love and the love for which Jesus sacrificed his life does not teach to be discriminative, unjust and unfair. He uses similar other Biblical figures and prominent reform preachers to target his very audience, the white clergymen, who where very well versed in the Bible and knew every concept of Bible and the reform movements. He emphasizes that if these people were right for there causes ,then how is he and the Afro-Americans for whom he is fighting for, are wrong. He emphasizes the importance of justice that ,if the justice is denied to one person it is equal justice denied for everyone because the unjust has far-reaching implications that will effect directly or indirectly each members of the society. Thus, ensures the importance of equal justice for all in the society by quoting the quote of State. Augustine " An unjust law is no law at all".

Thus , King uses the rhetorical appeal to logos to support his cause of the Civil Rights Movement and it's advancement.
