An effective way to promote critical thinking about parenting styles is to identify examples of each style from families depicted in literature, movies, or television programs. For example, the parents on Full House, a sitcom from the 1990s, are excellent examples of authoritative parents. Conversely, the parents on MTV’s popular reality series My Super Sweet 16 are clearly more permissive and place few demands or limits on their children. Good examples of authoritarian parenting can be found in the behavior of Captain Von Tripp in The Sound of Music.

Authoritative parents have very strict approach in their children's upbringing and have high demands. This is clearly portrayed in Tamil movie "Appa", in which a son dies as he suffers in the hands of bad institution because of his authoritative dad.

Permissible parenting - They are very lenient in their approach. An example of such parenting is actor Manivannan in the movie "Snegidhiye". The son grows with a very carefree attitude having a lot bad habits because of the excess freedom given by his dad.

Authoritarian parenting - it is a combination of both the parenting. Parents in the cartoon "Ninja hattori" can be taken as an example for this. They are strict when needed and are lenient when needed.

In my opinion, authoritative and permissible parenting ruins a child's behaviour. Since childhood forms a base for the adult life, It is necessary that it cultivates good attitude, morals and behaviours. The best is authoritarian parenting where the parent shapes himself/herself as per the situation, and what is seemed to be right for the child's growth.
