Question
Summarize the below passage in your own words.
It must be confessed that a crucial test of the truth of the hypothesis is quite as hard to obtain as its decisive refutation. A case of complete internal and external corporeal anaesthesia, without motor alteration or alteration of intelligence except emotional apathy, would afford, if not a crucial test, at least a strong presumption, in favour of the truth of the view we have set forth; whilst the persistence of strong emotional feeling in such a case would completely overthrow our case. Hysterical anaesthesias seem never to be complete enough to cover the ground.
Explanation / Answer
The decisive refutation as well as the test of truth of hypothesis are equally difficult to obtain. This is justified by the fact that the hysterical anaesthesias are not accepted to be the cause of unanticipated results after the corporeal anaesthesias whether external or internal. The normal procedure may include the changes to intelligence with no alteration to the emotional empathy. Also, the procedure argued in favor of may exclude any motor alterations. However, with these mentioned arrangements, the emotional feelings would be enough to refute the anaesthesia, if these feelings are found persistent in the person undergoing the procedure.
