Question

1. Hypothesis:

- Does meditation help with the side effects of depression

2. Identify whether your research design is correlational or causational. Explain why.

- My research design is correlational, I am wanting to test to see if meditation has an effect on depression.

3. If your design is experimental, identify the independent and dependent variables in your research question. If your design is correlational, identify the predictor and criterion variables.

-The predictor is meditation

- The criterion is depression

My question is what is the potential threats to validity (one internal and one external )?

Explanation / Answer

Internal validity is threatened whenever there exists the possibility of un- controlled extraneous variables that might otherwise account for the results of a study. The testing threat may occur when changes in test scores occur not because of the intervention but rather because of repeated testing. This is of particular concern when researchers administer identical pretests and posttests. External validity is threatened whenever conditions inherent in the research design are such that the generalizability of the results is limited. For example, For this particular study if the subjects used are only college students then it would be difficult to apply the results and generalize the research to a population who are not college students.
