Yes, I believe that material culture and technology are part of what defines us as Americans. The reason that I believe they are part of what defines us as Americans is because every culture includes a wide range of physical human creations called artifacts. A society’s artifacts partly reflect underlying cultural values. As Americans, our technology is way more advanced than other countries. The more complex a society’s technology is, the more its members are able to shape the world for themselves. While our powerful and complex technology has produced work-reducing devices and seemingly miraculous medical treatments, it has also contributed to unhealthy levels of stress and obesity in the population and created weapons capable of destroying in a blinding flash everything that humankind has achieved. Without our cultural beliefs and our advanced technology, we as Americans would not know what to do with ourselves, which sets us apart from other countries and defines us as Americans.

in this paragraph the author has described America as a country which is rich in technology. The author depicts America as a country where technology is a part of core culture of the country and all citizens of the country are a part of this technological love of America. The author has also highlighted the universal prowess of America in technology and the pride that Americans have in being number 1 in technology in the world. The author feels that the advances in technology has helped its citizens create more comfort for themselves and has reduced their work pressure . However along with the advantages of technology the nation has suffered with the disadvantage of excessive use of technology. One of them is the type of stress people in America have , another is a population which has become obese because of physical inactivity. Stress and obesity are brought out as two crtical problems of Americans. He also feels that creation of technology to kill like nuclear weapon is also a result of excessive technology evolution . The author feels that whatever the circumstances may be at the end of day American culture believes in technology eveolution and upgradation and do not know how else can life be lived?. And that is how America is America.
