A Nerve cell is also called neuron. It is the structural and functional unit of central nervous system. Neuron is an electrically excitable cell that receives, processes, and transmits information through electrical and chemical signals. Neurons interconnect through numerous branch-like processes forming a massive network of "wires" that extend throughout the body.

By sending messages across this network, the different parts of the human body interact and communicate with each other. The basic process by which neurons communicate is electrochemical process. The steps are as follows:
