(Answer) A 32-year-old woman name Jane Doe lives in LA, Pasadena. She has a successful career as an accountant. She spends her time after work with friends or with the family of her younger sister Janet. Jane has a niece who is very fond of her.

However, Janet also has a boyfriend of 2 years named Donald. They have been living together for a while now. He is an aggressive individual who occasionally beats Jane when he has had a bad day or is under the influence. This is why Jane tends to exclude him from her plans or after work social occasions.

Jane has been talking with a therapist lately in order to make personal progress. Jane discovered that, even though she is financially well to do and has a good relationship with her close family and good friends, she still feels stagnant. She discovered that Donald is the symptom of this stagnation.

Even though she would like to rid herself of her boyfriend Donald, she just hasn’t managed to get him out of the house as yet. Jane finds that this lack of courage is a result of having an abusive father.

While she was growing up, he father used to come home from work while under the influence and beat her and her mother. By the time Janet was a toddler, her parents divorced. This is why Janet had an emotionally secure upbringing as compared to Jane.

Jane feels that she has strong urges to break up with Donald, yet she finds it difficult to do so. The therapist reckons that Jane needs to introspect and confront her past self in order to make helpful changes in the present.

The therapist also feels that, once Jane’s old wounds are healed, she will be able to get Donald out of her house. She feels that a young Jane still wants to confront her father and get closure. She sees that opportunity in Donald.

The therapist feels that Jane needs to confront Donald’s behaviour in a way that she would have confronted her father when she was younger. Furthermore, she needs to believe that she is more than her experiences and is beyond these tormentors in her life. The therapist is trying to make Jane believe that there will always be bad people in her life. However, it shouldn’t be that each time she has a bad experience with someone or isn’t able to confront them, that she decides to make a bad decision.
