Various factors account for how a child grasps and learns the information taught by the teacher in the class. While factors such as level of attention and concentration do play a role what greatly decides why some kids already know it, others don't, some understand it while others are just wasting their time is their learning style.

According to Kolb 's learning style every person has a preferred learning style. Some are divergent learners(feeling and watching, using their imagination to understand concepts) some convergent(doing and thinking, better at doing practical tasks) , assimilating learners(watching and thinking, logical approach to learning) while others are accomodative learners(doing and learning, hands on learning).

Thus, it is necessary for teachers to have an idea about the learning style of the student and work towards teaching the topic combining all the learning styles of the students for better understanding and not keep the approach only one dimensional.

Also in order to keep students attention and interest the learning should be fun. Interactions and discussions should be encouraged so that involvement of all the students is possible. Along with this a keen observation by the teacher to ensure that he/she is reaching out to every student is necessary.
