Explanation / Answer

In my opinion, Indians lived a life that was meaningful, natural, cultured and disciplined when compared to the American Society. American Society was not ready because it was relatively new and had people from different European societies besides slavery was legal. So, in all its form, the Indians were more advanced and civilized because machineries and huge buildings cannot make a nation or society civilized.

"Remarks Concerning the Savages of North America" was written by Benjamin Franklin. It brought a paradigm shift in the way people thought about civilization and cultured society. This is one of the three essays that he wrote. One, “Remarks concerning the Savages of North America” and the other “Information to Those Who Would Remove to America”. The third essay contained some personal note, so it was not published. This essay is an ironic and sarcastic writing about the way the Indians and the contemporary American Society lived.

In his essay he says that the Indian males had three major roles to play, such as hunters who gather food, soldiers or warriors and counselors who were elders. The Indians considered the modern education a weak one where people don’t have any contact with the nature. This was evident when the young Indians attended school and came back, they were afraid to go out for hunting, their senses weak and they couldn’t bear heat or cold. One of the Indian leaders once commented during a meeting with the government officials by saying that if the city dwellers send their young ones with them they would make them real men.

Apart from the three roles men play, women play the role of recording the meetings and other events to the children thus keeping the history alive. He compares the disciplined gatherings of the Indians to the chaotic meetings of the city dwellers where people keep forgetting and the speaker has to explain and reiterate things. Besides the meetings happen in a very disciplined manner whereas the people of the city always fight and intervene with the speakers. Indians always respected others who visited them by listening considerately but that didn't mean that they accepted everything whatever the visitors talked.
To summarise, Indians were far better than the contemporary American society earlier and they were healthy, wise and brave.
