Question

The graph of a linear relationship, that defines y in terms of x, passes through the points (7,7) and (8, 9.38).

a. What is the constant rate of change of y with respect to x (slope) for this relationship? <<2.38 is the correct answer for part a, but that is all I know>>

b. From the point (7,7) how much must x change to reach a value of x = 0?

c. What is the corresonding change in the value of y for the change in x you found in part b?

d. What is the value of y when x = 0?

e. Write a formula to determine the value of y in terms of the varying value of x.

Explanation / Answer

points (7,7) and (8, 9.38).

a)constant rate of change of y with respect to x =(9.38-7)/(8-7) =2.38

b)From the point (7,7) change x must to reach a value of x = 0 is 0-7=-7

negative sign indicates x is decreasing tom 7 to 0

c)corresponding change in the value of y =2.38*(-7)=-16.66

d)value of y when x = 0 is y =7-16.66 =-9.66

e)formula to determine the value of y in terms of the varying value of x

y-7=(2.38)(x-7)

y-7=2.38x-16.66

y =2.38x-9.66
