The process of performance management is aimed at aligning the goals of the employee with the goals of the organization. Employees are bound to have individual goals and these goals are expected to be aligned with the goals of the organization. This will enhance the individual performance therby enhancing the organization performance. When an individual's talent are identified and analysed, it is completely in the organization's perspective. Performance management is the process to identify the gap between the individual goals and the organization goals.
This gap is then overcome by the process of training and development where the individuals skill set are analysed and then assesssed. When the skill set of the employee increases, their productivity increases and this inturn will lead to an expectation of increased compensation from the employer. The employee fails to understand that the skill enhancement was a part of the performance management process wherein his skills are upgraded to meet the demands of the organization thereby enabling him to align his individual goal with the organization goal.
Hence performance management is one complete process, wherein the employee gets to understand the expectation of the organization thereby having a self analysis of their skill set, the lead areas, their lag areas as well as the areas where they might be in need of training and development so that their individual goals are aligned wiht the organization goals.
