The Problem: The Case of the Missing Supplies
You have been conducting a routine audit of the various accounts in the company. You noticed that over the past three months the amount of money spent on office and lab supplies has tripled. Given that you have not added staff or initiated any new products, this fact is surprising. Supplies are ordered by work group, which tend to have 10 to 15 employees. Thus, each group is responsible for maintaining a supply cabinet with office supplies and lab supplies, if appropriate. When supplies are low, the group orders what is necessary. When you do a bit of research, you discover that two groups have increased their usage by 150% while a third work group, who is part of the production group has increased usage by 250%.
Compare and contrast at least two options, preferably three. Choose one option which you intuitively believe is the right answer and then choose another with which you disagree or which is a close second.
After brainstorming with the leadership team, you have identified four options:
Institute a policy where each work group has a budget for supplies which can only be increased by approval of the CFO or designee. Thus, each group would be responsible for managing its own budget.
Do not make any change in company policy, but send an intranet message to all employees that the supply use is up and asking them to be careful about the use.
Institute a policy where each person has to sign each time that office or lab supplies are taken from the cabinet.
Do not make any change in company policy but talk to the leads of the work groups which have the problems and see if they can figure out what is going on in their group.
The Virtuous Components to consider:
In three to four coherent paragraphs, compare and contrast your options using the Reputation Lens. In the process, consider the following questions:
Components of the Practice: Consider the (a) standards of excellence, (b) rules that must be follows, (c) internal goods achieved, and (d) external goods achieved by the ethical actor in their role.
Expectations of the Community: What do the stakeholders expect of an "excellent" person in the decision-maker's role?
Core Virtues: Considering your options, which one best meets the requirements of the core virtues: integrity, courage, justice, and civility?
Unity of Life: Now, reflecting on the options, which one best meets the ethical actor's requirements for unity of life? Which on best exemplifies the standards of a life as a whole?
Core Benefits: Which option is most consistent with the ethical actor's core beliefs? Which option has the potential to energize and transform both the ethical actor and the community?

As you work through the four lenses, you will find words to support your first choice or discover that another option is in fact preferable. Do not make any change in company policy but talk to the leads of the work groups which have the problems and seo if they can fgure out what is going on in their groupExplanation / Answer
The option which I consider is right is
Institute a policy where each workgroup has a budget for supplies which can only be increased by approval of CFO or designee. Thus each group would be responsible for managing it's own budget.
Second option which is close is
Do not make any change in company policy but talk to the leads of work group which have the problem and see if they can figure out what is going on in their group.
In the first option or rule is imposed on the group which the group members have to follow where as in the second option rule is not present. Presence of rule would place greater responsibility on the members of group and they would use office supplies in the responsible manner where is in the second option due to absence of rules there is higher chance that group members will use office supplies in an irresponsible manner.
Expectations of the community is that each members should act in a responsible manner to protect the environment by using the supplies provided by the environment like a minimalist. The second option would provide the opportunity to each member of group to act with integrity, courage, justice and equality as they would have to monitor their own actions by using office supplies in a responsible way.
The second option exemplifies the standard of life as a whole and best mets the ethical actors requirement for unity of life. As second option gives each group member opportunity for self development and monitoring and becoming aware of our own behaviour towards usage of office supply. Where as in first option, rule is forcefully imposed on the group member living with less scope for self improvement and monitoring behaviour of self towards society.
The second option is more consistent with the ethical actors core beliefs and has the potential to energize and transform both the ethical actor and the community.
