Of particular interest were effects of age and gender on driver behaviour. Data were collected during three periods (morning, midday and afternoon) of one day at a chosen set of traffic lights at a single Brisbane intersection. Age of driver was determined by observation, and three age groups were used. The class of vehicle was recorded as commercial, sport, standard. and the type of vehicle as 4WD, large, medium, small, motorcycle, utility or van. The colour of the vehicle and the number of passengers were also recorded. The distance (in cms) the vehicle stopped behind the stopping line was recorded. Acceleration (in metres per second squared) of the vehicle when the lights turned green was obtained using a reference point 30.6 m from the stop line and measuring the time to reach that point.
