Question
2) You cross a male turtle that has a gray shell & orange eyes to a female that is Wild type for each trait. In the F1 you observe the following: all the ave a gra shell, but all the females have a gray e eyes, If you then cross a E1 male with an F1 female you obtain the following results: 305 gra with orange 103 orange eyes. Propose an explanation for this result i e, what is the pattern of inheritance for each gene? Also, what are the Genotypes of the P & F1 flies? Answer
In a species of turtle, gray shell and orange eyes /wild type
Wild type of species means they contain normal genes
Since they are recessive and gray shell and orange eyes character is dominant all the offsprings in the F1 generation have gray shell and orange eyes
Since the ratio is odd, we should think it is not normal mendelian ratio of dihybrid cross
there are more than one gene responsible for the trait (most likely 2 genes/4 alleles)- multiple alleles
So, let's assume that there are 2 genes (4 alleles) responsible for the branch trait. We also must assume that the genes are independent which means they are inherited separately and not together.
We designate the genes GG
