Explanation / Answer

A statistical distribution is a probability distribution which contains the probability associated with different events. To make managerial decisions, one needs to have data to back their decisions. And data is meaningless unless it is analysed and hence, after that analysis, we obtain statistics from that data we have. For example, an example of using a statistical distribution for valet parking :

The different events correspond to reasons for customer complaits :

Event 1 = Valet driver dirtied the car

Event 2 = Valet driver changed the mirror position

Event 3 = Valet driver behaved unprofessionally (tip related)

Event 4 = Valet driver accused of theft

As we can see, the way a statistical distribution like this helps is when we can actually make decisions with the data backing us up as support. In this case, we conclude that the most common case of customer complaint is when the Valet Driver dirtied the car and the least common case is accusations of theft. This lets us know what's going on and increases our awareness about the service that enables us to make better decisions.

Cheers!
