This Question: 1 pt 30110 (7 complete) ? Use the sample data and confidence level given below to complete parts (a) through (d) A research institute poll asked respondents?they felt vuherable to identity theft Inthe p· ?Click the icon to view a table of z scores. a) Find the best point estimate of the population proportion p 1010 and x = 586 who said "yes . Use a 90% confidence levol (Round to three decimal places as needed.) b) Identify the value of the margin of error E Round to three decimal places as needed) c) Construct the confidence interval e p (Round to three decimal pl ces as needed ) d) Wite a statement that correctly interprets the confidence interval Choose the correct answer below OA. There is a 90% chance that the true value othe population proportion w"fa. between the lower bound and h. upper boundExplanation / Answer
Solution :
Given that n = 1010 , x = 586
=> for 90% confidence interval , Z = 1.645
a) The best point estimate of the population proportion is p = x/n
= 586/1010
= 0.580
b) Margin of error E = Z*sqrt(p*(1-p)/n)
= 1.645*sqrt(0.580*(1 - 0.580)/1010)
= 0.026
c) The 90% confidence interval is p - E < p < p + E
=> 0.580 - 0.026 < P < 0.580 + 0.026
=> 0.554 < p < 0.606
d) Option B. one has 90% confidence that the interval from the lower bound to the upper bound actually does contain the true value of the population proportion
