Question
Dear Chegg Expert,
I am trying to understand how to interpret the chart above. One term that I looked up was age adjusted. I know that the study was done on women between the ages of 40 - 70 but I do not know how this applies to the study or what that means.
When I look at the category all subjects, the no of participants is 69,710. I got that, lol... When I look at a category below that such as education, I do not know how they come up with 13.7% and what that means. I am guessing that it means 13.7% of the 69,710? And, I do not know if/how the 13.7 is relevant to the 11.3 (non-tea drinkers) and 19.5 (green tea drinkers) or if the 49,089 is relavent to the 11.3%.
Can you please take one or two of the characteristics in the chart and thoroughly evaluate them and explain what it means so I can apply the information to the rest of the chart.
Thanks in advance,
Shani

Characteristic 1: Education
Note the field mentioned for education is "Education, college and above(%)". This means that the number 13.7% under the column "All subjects" implies that among the total 69,710 women under study, 13.7% have education level of college and above. Further, under the column "NO" for drinking habit, the number 11.3% indicates that among the 49084 women who do not regularly drink tea, 11.3% have education level of college and above. Similarly, under the column "Yes" for drinking habit, the number 19.5% indicates that among the 20626 women who do not regularly drink tea, 19.5% have education level of college and above.
Characteristic 2: Body mass index
Here the number 23.9 is the age-adjusted mean value (age-adjusted implies that we take into account that certain body parameters differ siginificantly with age, so when computing average of women falling into different age groups, we must take an appropriate weighted average to supress the age effect on average) of body mass index of the total 69710 women. The value (3.4) is the standard deviation of the BMI of these 69710. Now, 23.8 under "No" column indicates the age-adjusted mean of BMI for women who do not drink tea regularly. Similar interpretation carries for "yes" column.
