13. 0.1 My Notes Ask Your Teacher -n points MIntroStat92. E. 526XP The data from data122.dat contains information on 78 seventh-grade students. We want to know how well each of IQ score and self-concept score predicts GPA using least-squares regression. We also want to know which of these explanatory variables predicts GPA better. Give numerical measures that answer these questions. (Round your answers to three decimal places) (Regressor: Q)R2 (Regressor: Self-Concept) R Which variable is the better predictor? O Self ConceptExplanation / Answer
R-squared is the fraction by which the variance of the errors is less than the variance of the dependent variable.
Here gpa is dependent variable and independent variable is iq and concept.
Now we have to find R square for two models.
The two models are :
i) gpa and iq
ii) gpa and concept.
We can find R-square by using excel.
We can do regression in excel.
steps :
ENTER data into EXCEL sheet --> Data --> Data analysis --> Regression --> ok --> Input Y range : select gpa --> Input X range : select iq --> click on labels --> Output range : select one empty cell --> ok --> ok
gpa and iq :
R square = 0.423186 = 42.3186%
Similarly R square for gpa and concept is 0.29202 = 29.202%
i) High value of R-squared, this is a very bad model low R square is good model.
SO second model has lowest R square.
Second model is good model.
