Question
Overview
For this assignment, you will be writing a survey, collecting data, finding summary statistics and making graphs. The purpose is to apply all the previous statistical concepts you have learned in chapters 1-4 to a topic of interest to you. You will present your results in graphical form and compute numerical summaries. You will also discuss if there exists any bias in your data and what type of bias.
Instructions
Write a survey with at least six (6) questions. The survey needs to include at least three (3) questions that are quantitative and at least three (3) questions that are qualitative. You can have more if you would like and they can be either quantitative or qualitative. (Please see the 'Sample of Surveys' link at the bottom of this page to see past examples from students.)
For the two quantitative questions, think about something that may have a relationship that can be shown on a scatter plot (see step 5 below).
Pick a topic that is of interest to you.
If you do not feel comfortable talking to people, you can use Facebook, or I have had students conduct surveys of their CDS, library books, bills at a restaurant where they work, ....
Collect the data.
Collect the data from at least 30 people or about 30 things.
Enter the data into Excel.
Let the first column in Excel be your subjects (numbered 1 – 30) and each column in Excel represent a question that you asked. Enter the answers into the corresponding cells. Check a sample of excel spreadsheet for your reference. Also a blank spreadsheet templateis linked here for your use.
Summary Statistics
For EACH question that is quantitative you need to find the following summary statistics by hand, using your calculator or using Excel.
Summary Statistics: Mean, median, mode, variance, standard deviation and five number summary.
Create Graphs
Create a pie chart for one set of qualitative data.
Create a bar chart for a different set of qualitative data.
Create a graph for one set of quantitative data. This can include a histogram, ogive, frequency polygon, or box and whisker plot (box plot). The easiest, in my opinion, is to do a box and whisker by hand and scan it in.
Create a scatter plot for two of your quantitative data sets.
Write a paper that includes all of the above. The paper should be double spaced and size 12 font. Your paper should specifically include and address the following:
Cover page
Intro- Background information – why you are interesting in the topic and is there any background information we need to know to understand the topic.
Data collection- include your questions, how you collected your data, and what bias may have occurred while collecting your data. Turn in your excel spreadsheet as well.
Summary statistics- for each quantitative question include, in paragraph form, the summary statistics.
Graphs- include each graph in the body of your paper. Explain what each graph is and what each graph shows you. Make sure to include which question it represents. For the scatter plot make sure to comment on the relationship and include r.
Conclusion/Summary- what did you learn?, was there any results that were surprising?, what would you have done differently?, are there additional questions you would like to ask?, what is your personal reaction?
References that you used. Many of you will not have references. Please list your textbook if you did not use any other source so you earn these points.
Submit your completed work as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file format. Please look at a sample of survey before you start this assignment.
See the Schedule in the Start Here module for dues dates and Module 2 Assignment Rubric attached to this folder for grading information.
Explanation / Answer

"The awareness of body Fitness and Healthcare"
The possible questions that could be included in the survey could be:
Gender - (Qualitative)
Age - _________ (Quantitative)

A person who leads a more active life and eats healthy is more fit and is able to enjoy life to the fullest extent. The modern generation though more vibrant but leads moe sedentary lifestyle often working 9-5 desk jobs and hence do not engage in a lot of excercise or active workouts. It is important to assess the level of awareness that people have about fitness and daily healthcare. Physical and mental fitness play very integral roles in our lives and people who are both, physically and mentally fit are less prone to medical conditions as well. It is important that people appreciate the importance of physical activity/sports in their daily lives.
Data could be collected by handing over the questionnaire to participants in the survey and getting it filled. The questionnaires can be filled by say people in a park, at a cafeteria, at a bus stop or at a grocery store. It is important that all age groups and genders are included in the survey and the participants are selected in an unbiased and random manner.
