(a) Jennifer can win a net of 1500 – 1 = 1499 with a probability of 1/4000, 750 – 1 = 749 with a probability of 2/4000 and 0 – 1 = -1 with a probability of 3997/4000

Expected value = 1499(1/4000) + 749(2/4000) + (-1)(3997/4000) = -1/4

Expected value = $-0.25

(b) Let the fair price of a ticket be p. Then (1500 – p)(1/4000) + (750 – p)(2/4000) + (-p)(3997/4000) = 0

Solving, we get p = 3/4

Fair price of a ticket = $0.75
