Question
1. Answer the following Select two variables, one independent variable and the other the dependent variable. Explain the cause and effect the relation between the two. How would you construct the Simple Linear Regression (quantity of data and how you will measure the results), and what would you use to validate the equation forecasting an x value. Consider following data on Height and Weight:
Here we have considered variables as Height and Weight, in most of the cases, the more is height the more is weight. These variables are mostly positively correlated.
We will conduct a simple linear regression model as follows:
Height=a+b*weight
Excel gives following output for above model:
From above output, the fitted model becomes:
Height = 96.55 + 1.09*Weight
We can validate this equation by choosing an arbitrary weight from above data and we will predict corresponding height. Let's consider 6th observation 73. The predicted height for this weight is:
Height = 96.55 + 1.09*73=176.12
The original height in above data is 176. Hence the model is correctly predicting the Height for a given weight.
