Why is the chi-squared considered a n what kind of scale is used in chi-square problems)? s required to use the chi-squared (hint: it's different than the type of data we' ve been onparametric statistic (hint: 6. (9 pts) Write your own research vignettes (in one short paragraph), describing a hypothetical study for one of each of the following research designs: Between-Subjects, Within-Subjects, and Mixed Factorial. You should limit your example to two independent variables (the # of levels of each variable is up to you, but to keep things simple, feel free to keep it to two levels). a. Between-Subjects Two-Way ANOVA: b. Within-Sibjects Two-Way ANOVA: c. Mixed-Factorial Two-Way ANOVA: 13 pts) A researcher would like to test whether age and college major are independ

Explanation / Answer

Now first we define Anova.

ANOVA:- analysis of variance (ANOVA) a statistical method for making simultaneous comparisons between two or more means. a statistical method that yields values that can be tested to determine whether a significant relation exists between variables.

(a). Between-Subject Two Way Anova. -In the two way anova, a between-componet and source is an experiment that has two or more groups of subjects each being tested by a different testing factor simultaneously, so it is between subject two way anova.

Example:-

An engineer wants to assess the relationship between sintering time and the compressive strength of three different metals. The engineer measures the compressive strength of five specimens of each metal type at each sintering time:

To test the statistical significance of the two factors, and the interaction between them, the engineer uses two-way ANOVA. we have two factor sinter type and metal type.

(b) Within-Subject Two Way Anova :-  A within-subjects design is an experiment in which the same group of subjects serves in more than one treatment. Note that I'm using the word "treatment" to refer to levels of the independent variable, rather than "group".So it is Within -Subject Two Way Anova.

(c). Mixed- Factorial Two -Way Anova:-  A mixed factorial Two Way Anova involves two or more independent variables, of which at least one is a within-subjects (repeated measures) factor and at least one is a between-groups factor. In the simplest case, there will be one between-groups factor and one within-subjects factor.

Example:- if we are interested in examining the effects of a new type of cognitive therapy on depression, we would give a depression pre-test to a group of persons diagnosed as clinically depressed and randomly assign them into two groups (traditional and cognitive therapy). After the patients were treated according to their assigned condition for some period of time, say a month, they would be given a measure of depression again (post-test). This design would consist of one within subject variable (test), with two levels (pre and post), and one between subjects variable (therapy), with two levels (traditional and cognitive).
