Question

Problem 2 Hemoglobin. The average hemoglobin reading for a sample of 100 teachers was 16 grams. Assume the population standard deviation is 2.5 grams. Confidence level is 95% A. What is the standard error? B. What is the margin error? C. The 95% confidence interval of the true mean is: D. Interpretation Problem 3 Vacations. A U.S. Travel Data Center survey conducted for Better Homes and Gardens of 1,500 e more year. A. What is the best point estimate of p? B. What is the standard error? C. What is the margin error?

Explanation / Answer

Problem 2

a) SE = SD/sqrt(n) = 2.5/sqrt(100) = 0.25

b) For 95% CI, significance level = 0.05, zcrit = +/-1.96

Margin of error, E = zcrit * SE = 1.96*0.25 = 0.49

c) 95% CI = Mean +/- E = 16 +/- 0.49 = (15.51, 16.49)

d) There is a 95% chance the interval (15.51, 16.49) contains the true population mean
