Question
some survey data suggests that people are using their tablets of average before upgrading to a new one. If the standard deviation of the data is.59 years and a user is sel find the probability that the user will use their tablet device for before upgrading. From the series: 14, 19, 21, 23,24, 29, 43, 54, 90, 91, 22, 45, 49, What quantities are in the first quartile? 18. Regarding variance estimation, how can outliers be handled? 19. Why is selection bias a problem in sampling? 20 If 12 babies are born, how many different gender combinationExplanation / Answer
Question 18
There are two thumb rule for detection of outliers. First rule is based on the inter-quartile range (IQR) and second rule is based on the variance or standard deviation. Regarding the variance estimation, we consider the values below (mean – 2*SD) and above (mean + 2*SD) as an outliers. According to inter-quartile thumb rule, generally extreme value which is at least 1.5 IQR ranges below the first quartile or 1.5 IQR ranges above the third quartile.
Question 19
Selection bias is a problem in sampling because if we select any item or observation purposefully, then the chance of selection of each item would not remain same and the assumption of random selection disappears during sampling. So, this type of sampling affects the final sample which does not provide unbiased estimates for population parameters. So, it is important to avoid selection bias during the process of sampling so that we can get unbiased estimators which would be useful for further inference.
