Score: 0 of 3 pts 3.3.17 A standard deok of cards contains 52 cards. One card is selected from the deck. (o) Compute the probability of randomily selecting a spade or dlub. b) Compute the probability of randomly selecting a spade or club or heart. (c) Compute the probability of randomly selecting an ace or diamond. P(spade or club)= 0.5 (Round to three decimal places as needed.) b. P(spade or club or hear)- 0.75 (Round to three decimal places as needed.) c. P(ace or diamond)Round to three decimal places as needed.) a.

Explanation / Answer

a) In a deck of 52 cards, there are 13 spade and 13 clubs.

So, total number of spades and clubs = 13 + 13 = 26.

Hence, probability of randomly selecting a spade or club

= 26 / 52 = 0.5.

b) In a deck of 52 cards, there are 13 spades, 13 clubs and

13 hearts.

So, total number of cards = 13 + 13 + 13 = 39.

Hence, probability of obtaining a spade or club or heart

= 39 / 52 = 0.75. (Ans).

c) There is one ace of diamond and 3 other aces.

Also, there are 12 diamonds without ace.

So, probability of obtaining a diamond in ace

= (1 + 3 + 12) / 52 = 16 / 52 = 0.3077. (Ans).
