Question
Exercise 3.4. Early class. Consider these 3 independent trials: On Monday you wake up 45 minutes before class, and the probability that you get to class on time is 0.98. On Tuesday you wake up 32 minutes before class, and your chance of being on time is 0.71. On Wednesday you wake up very, very late, and your probability of being on time is only 0.16. a. What is the probability that you were on time to class all 3 days? b. What is the probability that you were never on time? c. What is the probability that you were on time at least 1 day?Explanation / Answer
a) P(that on class on all 3 days) =P(on time on monday)*P(on time on tuesday)*P(on time on wednesday)
=0.98*0.71*0.16=0.111328
b) probability never on time =P(not on time on monday)*P(not on time on tuesday)*P(not on time on wednesday)
=(1-0.98)*(1-0.71)*(1-0.16)=0.004872
c) P( on time that you were on time at least 1 day) =1-P(never on time) =1-0.004872=0.995128
