The intensity of this response may be measured on a somewhat subjective scale ranging from 3 to 0. A rapid movement of the snake from one location to another is given a score of 3, a movement involving at least one-third of the snake's body but not resulting in relocation of the animal is given a score of 2, a slight movement of the head only is given a score of 1, and no visible response is given a score of 0. Fifteen snakes were tested for this response and received the following scores. What variable type are these data? f 20.1500 g 20.2500Explanation / Answer
the movement of the snake is measured on a scale of 0-3
this type of variable constitues a ordinal data
reason: each score determines a certain level of movement and hence can be ordered. for example a score 3 indicates a rapid movement while a slight head movement is given a score of 1 so by seeing the score we can guess the level of movement or in other words it can be ordered.
note: another type of categorical data is the nominal data for example religion,(christian, muslim, hindu etc) we cannot order the response.
but here we can actually order the categories
rapid movement denoted by 3
one third body part moves by 2
slight head movement by 1
no movement by 0
hence this type of data forms the ordinal data.
