Question
images are distorted by T2* decay. Signal Lost Oxygenated Deoxygenated Figure 7.3 Magnetic properties of oxygenated and deoxy- genated hemoglobin. To verify that the effects illustrated in Figure 7.2 resulted from changes in blood oxygen level, Ogawa there was substantial signal loss surrounding the gradient- and colleagues compared images of oxygenated and deoxy genated blood collected using both spin and gradient-echo imaging. The images of oxygenated blood were not distorted, from water molecules outside of the test tube in adjacent regardless of whether spin-echo (A) or gradient-ccho (B) images were acquired. The spin-echo image of the deoxy genated blood (C) was slightly distorted, but the distortion did not extend to the arca surrounding the test tube. Iowever ccho image of the deoxygenated blood (D), showing that the presence of deoxygenated hemoglobin reduces the MR signal space. (After Ogawa et al., 1990b.)Explanation / Answer
d
figure d, results in the greatest loss in signal around test tubes filled with deoxygenated blood
