Question
In this circuit the book states that the initial current over the inductor is 20 A. I noticed that this is the same current that is produced by the source. It appears that all the current is skipping the 0.1 ohm resistor and going through the inductor instead. I do not understand why this occurs.
t-0 2? Figure 7.7 A The circuit for Example 7.1. Solution a) The switch has been closed for a long time prior to t=0, so we know the voltage across the inductor must be zero at t -0T. Therefore the initial current in the inductor is 20 A at0T. Hence, i, (0) also is 20 A, because an instanta neous change in the current cannot occur in an inductor. We replace the resistive circuit con nected to the terminals of the inductor with a single resistor of 10 ?:Explanation / Answer
During steady state inductor acts as short circuit
In our circuit 0.1 ohm resistor is connected in parallel with inductor
Current chooses low resistance path, that is why no current flows through all the other resistors except inductors
So if there is any shunt across a element no current flows through it
