Question
in a murder investigation the temperature of the corpse was 32.5 C @1:30 pm and 30.3C an hour later. Normally body temperature is 37C and the temperature of the surrounding is 20C. When did the murder take place?
What I did is using y(t)=y(0).e^kt
and y(t)=T(t)-Tsurrounding = T(t)-20
t=0 T=37
t1=? T=32.5
t2=t1+1 T=30.3
then I substituted the values,
y(t1)=y(0).e^kt
T(t1)-20=(37-20)e^kt1
35.5-20=17e^kt1
12.5=17e^kt1
and for y(t2)
10.3=17e^k(t1+1)
then I devided the first equation by the second,
12.5/10.3=(17e^kt1)/17e^k(t1+1)
and I got k= -0.19358
Then by substituting k I got t=1.588 which is around 1.35 hrs
what is wrong with my solution?
Explanation / Answer
everything is right.......u got that murder took place 1hr 35.3min before 1:30 pm.....
hence answer is that murder took place at 11:54 am
