Explanation / Answer
Homeostasis is the term wich collectively refers to the temperature regulation mechanism of the body.In a general sense refers it to stability, balance or equilibrium. It is the body's attempt or inbuilt mechanism to maintain a constant internal environment. Maintaining a stable internal environment requires constant monitoring and adjustments as and when the conditions change. This adjusting or regulation of the physiological systems within the body is called homeostatic regulation.
Homeostatic regulation involves three parts or mechanisms: 1) the receptor, 2) the control center and 3) the effector.
regulated variable - the general temerature, ionic concentration, glucose levels , etc are all the set points
setpoint - desired level of regulated variable is called set point.
sensor - are the receptors that receives information that something in the environment is changing.
error signal - any deviation from the set point is the stimulus for regulation by the respective regulatory mechanisms
integrator - control center or integration center receives and processes information from the receptor.
effector. are those that respond to the commands of the control center by either opposing or enhancing the stimulus.
