Question 7(f 7. 10,00 pents MC Qu. 39 For a given confidence level and... mean when is known? For a given confíidence level and sample size, which of the following is true in O i the population standerd deviation is grester, the interval is narrower 0 If the sample standard devation is smalle, the interval is wider O lf the population standard deviation is smaller, the interval is wider O If the population standard deviation is greater, the interval is wider References Search the web and Windows Lenovo Esc d-

Explanation / Answer

we know that the confidence interval is given as

mean +-z*SD/sqrt(N),

now when SD increases ,
the CI also widens as the

mean+ SD and mean-SD would give a wider range , assuming N and Z are fixed

so the correct answer is D
lets say mean = 5 and sd =2

5+2 = 7
5-2 = 3
so range of CI is 7-3 = 4

lets say mean = 5 and sd =1
5 +1 = 6
5-1 = 4

range is 6-4 = 2

hence as SD increases , interval widens
