As study was conducted by the public health officials in the community to understand how the lifestyle choices are affecting the health of the individuals in the community. As per the survey conducted in the community, it was found that the percentage of adults who smoke have gone down from 10% to 6% and hypertension have reduced from 10% to 7%. The survey results also says that in 2002, 50% of the people who do smoke were having hypertension whereas only 5.6% who do not smoke had hypertension. This means that the individuals who smoke are at very high risk of having hypertension. it can also be said that, the major proportion of people who have hypertension are the ones who smoke. This becomes even more evident in the survey result of 2007. In 2007, 83% who smokes have hypertension and only 2% who do not smoke experience hypertension. The rate of smoking has decrease over the past 5 years, but the the population who smoke are at higher risk of having hypertension. We may conclude that smoking is one of the major factor that is contributing to hypertension in the individuals of the community. The lifestyle choice the people are affecting their health by a large extend and it is the people who have to make better choices, if they wish to stay healthy.
