Question

2 (3 poiuts)There are 1500 homes in a city Those homes can be divided into Homes rented from council 300 You have given The council is to carry out a survey into the quality of homes. You choose 70 pri- wned homes 700 categories Homes rented from private landlords 500 vately onned homes, 30 homes rented from council, and 50 homes rented from private Jandlonds to make up your sample. You have given every home in this city the same chance to be chose 2)wbat is that chance? (2)Why is your sample not an SRS? ‘01 10%

Explanation / Answer

(a) The chance for a privately owned home to be chosen = 70/700 = 1/10

The chance for a home rented from council to be chosen = 30/300 = 1/10

The chance for a home rented from private landlords to be chosen = 50/500 = 1/10

So the chance given to each home = 1/10

(b) This is not an SRS because not all combinations of homes have an equal chance of being interviewed. For instance, groups of 60 homes rented from councils have no chance of being chosen.
