Question

HW 7 Homework7: Problem 9 ts if the glucose level is above 140 milligrams per deciliter one hour after a sugary drink is ingested. Shelia's measured glucose level one hour after ingesting the sugary drink varies according to the Normal distribution with mean 129 mg/dl and standard deviation 8 mg/dl. Let L denote a patient's glucose level. (a) If are made on three different days, find the level L such that there is Shelia's glucose level distribution. What is the value of L? ANSWER: ons (b) If the mean result from the three tests is compared to the criterion 140 mg/dl, what is the probability that Shelia is diagnosed as having gestational diabetes? ANSWER: lery 4 Previous Next 12

Explanation / Answer

Normal distribution with mean 129 and standard deviation 8 is given.

a) P(Xbar > xbar) = 0.01

that is P(Xbar < = xbar) = 0.99

n = 3

First hav to find the z scor for 0.99, using excel z score for 0.99 is 2.33

z scor = xbar - mean/ (standard deviation / sqrt(n))

xbar = z * (standard deviation / sqrt(n)) + man

        = 2.33 * (8/sqrt(3)) + 129 = 10.76181 + 129 = 139.76181, this is the valu of L.

b) If glucos lvel is grater than 140 milligrams pr deciliter thn the patint is having gstational diabetes.

that is we have to find P(Xbar > 140)

first have to convrt the Xbar into z score

z scor = Xbar - man / standard dviation / sqrt(n)

           = 140 - 129 / (8 / sqrt(3)) = 2.38

that is P(Xbar > 140) bcoms P(Z > 2.38) by using excel we gt the probability for z = 2.38 is 0.9913

But we need to find the greater than probability so it will be 1 - 0.9913 = 0.0087

This is the probability that Shelia is diagnosed as having a gstational diabetes.
