Question
Question 4 Is there an association between infection rate and previous admission at Intensive Care Units? Researchers followed a random sample of 200 patients at one intensive care unit. For each patient, they measured (among other things) whether the patient had been admitted to the ICU within the last 6 months. They also recorded whether the patient contracted an infection while in the ICU. The researchers are curious to know whether repeat patients are at greater risk of infection than first time patients, at this particular ICU The data is summarized in the table below. Infection NoInfection Total 12 100 30 170 PreviousVisit 18 NoPrevious 70 Find the sample proportion of patients with infections in each group (Previous Visit vs No Previous Visit). We would like to test whether repeat patients (who have been to the ICU before) are more likely to get an infection than first-time patients. Verify that the conditions are met for classical inference on this data set (explain). a. b. c. Use classical inference methods to evaluate the test in the previous part. What is the p- value for your test? Show your work or give a screen shot of your output. Make a decision at the alpha = 0.05 level of significance. Interpret your decision in the context of the study. d.Explanation / Answer
a)
b) Yes, data is categorical. So we can perform two way chi square test to check the independency
c)
The chi-square statistic is 3.6669. The p-value is .055503. The result is not significant at p < .05.
