Question

Introduction Anna is taking an applied statistics course at her university. As part of the course, Anna is required to do a statistics project instead of a final exam. For this project, she is required to collect and analyze data to answer questions she has developed. Then she must write a report describing her work and findings.

Since Anna is working part-time two evenings per week at an ACT test-taking workshop, she decides to use some of the data she can access at her job.

She develops a plan to collect the data as well as the questions she wants to answer. She gets these approved by her employer and her instructor.

Her questions are:

1. Do students who participate in the workshop significantly increase their ACT scores?

2. Do males who participate in the workshop score significantly lower on the ACT than females who participate in the workshop?

3. Is the mean ACT score of students participating in the workshop significantly higher than 22?

4. Are there relationships between: (1) the workshop participants’ GPA and ACT scores; and (2) gender of the participants in the workshop and ACT scores?

1. Anna selects her sample. She has a list of all 500 students currently participating in the workshop in a spreadsheet on her computer at her job. She randomly picks one student from the list, and then chooses every 25th student after that. Once Anna has done this she ends up with 20 students in her sample. This type of sampling technique is called: (3 pts) (circle one)
