Question

CAN YOU PLEASE FILL IN THE BLANKS.....

A study investigated the effects of physical fatigue on the performance of professional tennis players. Researchers measured the number of unforced errors committed by a random sample of 12 professional tennis players during the first three sets of a match. They hypothesized that increased fatigue would be associated with a greater number of errors. The following is an F-table for this hypothetical study using the one-way within-subjects ANOVA.

(a) Complete the F-table.

Make a decision to retain or reject the null hypothesis. (Assume alpha equal to 0.05.)

Retain the null hypothesis.Reject the null hypothesis.

(b) Estimate effect size using partial omega-squared: P2. (Round your answer to two decimal places.)
P2 =

You may need to use the appropriate table in Appendix B to answer this question.

Source of Variation SS df MS Fobt Between groups 14 Between persons 3 Within groups (error) 55 Total

Explanation / Answer

(a) Here number of sets = 3

dF(between groups) = 3 -1 = 2

dF(withing groups) = 3 * (4-1) = 9

Here at alpha = 0.05,

Fcritical = F0.05,2,9 = 4.2565

so here F >  Fcritical so we  reject the null hypothesis.

(b) omega-squared 2P = [SSeffect - (dfeffect)(MSerror)]/ [SStotal + MSerror]

=[ 28 - 2 * 3]/ [55 + 3]

= 22/58 = 0.379
