Question
1. collected the data set from the United States EPA for Rockland County for year 2009 .I checked to make sure that all of the conditions were met for the Central Limit Theorem.
2. I noted that there was a total of 173 days total in the data set recorded concentrations of the major pollutants. There was 18 days in 2009 data compare to 50 days in 2015 data that had AQI over 50 which signifies that there were more days with "not good air" quality conditions in 2015.
P1= 2009
Number of success =18
Sample size = 173
Sample Proportion of Success = 10.40%
P2 = 2015
Number of success =50
Sample size = 359
Sample Proportion of Success = 13.93%
I performed the 4 steps hypothesis test as below.
hypothesize test to perform the null hypothesis by using the alternative hypothesis “is not equal to”, “is less than” and “is greater than”.
Prepare: I used the two proportion z-test in stat crunch to compare the 2009 and 2015 data.
Compute to compare: Stat Crunch computed the value of the test statistics and p-value.
Interpret: The proportion of the days with “not good” air quality in the capital district area has changed while comparing 2009 and 2015. There were 32 more days that the air quality was not good in 2015 than in 2009. So the days with not good air has almost tripled between 2009' (having 18 days with "not good air") and 2015' with 50 days of "not good air".
After doing a two sample hypothesis test using statcrunch my results for these two propotion sample hypothesis test using P1 and P2 and these are the results.
Hypothesis test results:
based on these results can I reject or not reject the null hypothesis? based on my z-stat and p value? why? or why not?
H0 : p1 - p2 = 0
HA : p1 - p2 0
p1 : proportion of successes for population 1
p2 : proportion of successes for population 2

here for above two tailed test as p vlaue=0.2543 is very high
therefore we are not supposed to reject the null hypothesis
