Please answer ALL parts a,b, & c. Thank you in advance!
1. A test program is to be conductedto evaluate the performance of artillery projectiles against a variety of targets. The six target types to be included in the experiment are aluminum, steel, titanium, topsoil, sand, and simulated fuel tanks. The projectiles will be fired from two different angles (measured from horizontal to line of flight): 60 and 45°. Answer each of the following questions. a) How many factors are involved in the test program? What are they? How many test runs will be required for one complete replicate of the test program? b List all possible treatment combinations. What are the experimental units for this test program?Explanation / Answer
Let us define :
1)Treatment types :The artillery projectiles angles applied. This has two levels -60o (1) and 450 (2)
2)Blocks : Types of targets on which projectiles are applied. This has six levels - Aluminium (Al) ,Steel(St),Titanium(Tt),Topsoil(Ts) ,Sand(S) and Fuel Tanks(Ft)
a)No. of factors involved :n*b =no. of treatments*no. of blocks=2*6=12
Factors can be defined as the explanatory variable manipulated by the experimentor . Here Factors are all Treatment and Block types given.
As each time both projectile angles are applied on one type of target out of the six we have one replication.Hence TWO TEST RUNS ARE REQUIRED TO OBTAIN ONE COMPLETE REPLICATE.
b)All possible treatment combination : For treatment types 1 and 2 , the combination with six types of targets
1(Al) ,1(St),1(Tt),1(Ts),1(Sd),1(Ft),2(Al),2(St),2(Tt),2(Ts),2(Sd) & 2(Sd)
c)Experimental units can be defined as those units which receive treatment on them . Here the target materials are the units on which artillery projections are made on two different angles . Hence here the experimental units are the Aluminium, steels, titanium, topsoil, sand and Simulated fuel tank targets.
