Explanation / Answer

Here = 203 days

= 24.5 days

(a) Let say X is the random days a women aged 35 -49 has to wait for transplant. Let say the 5% percentile is X0

so Pr(X < X0 ) = NORMCDF(X < X0 ; 203 ; 24.5) = 0.05

so Z - value for p - value = 0.05

Z = -1.645 = (X0 - 203)/ 24.5

X0 = 203 - 24.5 * 1.645 =  162.6975 = 163 days

(b) Here the third quartile means P = 0.75

so the Z - value for 0.75 percentile.

Z = 0.6745

0.6745 = (X0 - 203)/ 24.5

X0 = 203 + 24.5 * 0.6745 = 219.5253

Here the 75% percentile = 220
